First Snowfall!

Winter has officially kicked off with the first snowfall! It may not have stuck but this means snowmen and snow ball fights are right around the corner.  Our favorite way to pass the time when it’s snowing is curled up on the couch with some hot cocoa.  Let us know your favorite treats and recipes for when the weather is cold outside on twitter or facebook!

I know you’re all thinking “Halloween just passed! Are stores really advertising for Christmas already?” Well, we have one to trump that: we wanted to get you guys thinking about our Valentine’s Aphrodisiac Dinner Event because it’s never too early to start planning, especially when you consider how fast this event sells out.  You can’t buy tickets yet, but we’ll keep all you love birds posted. The dinner will be help on Thursday, February 14 at Day by Day.  We promise it’s going to be a fun filled night with interesting stories of aphrodisiac food facts and other trivia.

Pickles and peanut butter. It’s a combination that most people would find repulsive, but once you try it, I think you’ll be pleasantly surprised at how good the unlikely pairing really is.  Our private events manager, Mica, was first to find out that these two opposites attract after reading an article in the New York Times.  She put the sandwich together with her favorite peanut butter and some bread and butter pickles and said she would definitely do it again.  Find it hard to believe she liked it so much?  Try it out on your own, and then get back to us on facebook or twitter and tell us what you thought!

How many people does it take to tie a bow tie? Apparently, more than one! Robert tried for what seemed like forever to get that dang thing tied and just couldn’t make it work.  He’s trying to bring back the bow tie look just in time to rock it on our new Prohibition Cocktail Tour.  He called Eric in for help but they were still struggling, even with a handy youtube video, narrated by a very proper British gentleman. At the end of the day, the only person who was an efficient bow tie bower was our intern Lindsey. We think it has something to do with the fact that she’s a lefty…

So Robert and Eric went out to Sanna’s Middle Eastern restaurant for lunch the other day over on 2301 Grays Ferry Ave and it was so good!  This is a picture of the Mujadara Platter that Robert had and said he would highly recommend it for anyone in the mood for middle eastern food.

Showing off our dapper, roaring 1920’s attire at the Bootleggers Ball held at the National Constitution Center last night.  It truly was the cats pajamas’s! We had so much fun viewing the exhibition, listening to the jazz band, and drinking some authentic Prohibition-era cocktails. City Food Tours is an exclusive partner of the National Constitution Center at it’s world premiere exhibition American Spirits: The Rise and Fall of Prohibition.

Eric’s cousin took a recent trip to Germany, home of the original pretzel. Excuse the sideways shot of the pretzel. You don’t know which way is up when you’re eating one of these things anyway! If you’ve never had a German Style pretzel, you are definitely missing out!

Another foodie highlight was the gelato. It wasn’t the world’s greatest gelato like we offer on our tour at Capogiro’s. But we’re sure it’s pretty darn good!

Mica, our wonderful private events coordinator, recently celebrated her birthday. We took her to Sawatdee Tahi Restaurant to celebrate! (One of the many perks of working at City Food Tours.) Sawatdee means ‘hello’ in Thai.
It was also a treat for our intern Dan, who had never had Thai food before. The food was delicious and we definitely recommend it to anyone in need of a Thai food fix.
Pictured Above is Mica, Dan, two of the cooks from Sawatdee and Robert Weinberg.

Check out our guests showing off the beautiful hand leis they crafted at our Hawaiian Flavors Event! Our guests also enjoyed a Mai Tai and a demo on how to make their own. A chocolate and tea tasting and a Mahi-Mahi taco were also on the menu! All of which we hope “broke da mout”.
Special shout out to the ladies from Garnet Valley, PA! (Our intern’s hometown.)
